How does Shakespeare connect with our modern day education?
In modern day education, Shakespeare is taught in high schools all across America. His way of writing left a lasting mark on literature and language. In schools they use his plays to discuss the topics of theme, motifs, and characterization because Shakespeare writes with deep and relatable concepts . Teachers have students examine and read Shakespeare's plays to help extend the student's vocabulary because of how immense Shakespeare's terminology was. When we read plays by Shakespeare they help us to learn how to understand content instead of just learning things that appear on a test. (Lerner) Shakespeare did many things in his plays that greatly impacted modern literature and language and that's another reason teachers have students learn about him, the things he did are still relevant today. In modern life there are also many references to his plays and to Shakespeare himself. Shakespeare's lessons and themes transcend his Elizabethan time period, they are things that are still just as relatable in modern times. The tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet is still just as relatable as it was then. When Romeo kills himself because he thinks Juliet is dead, it still pulls at our heartstrings like it did to people back then. (Shakespeare) Shakespeare will always be considered a great playwright and poet and will be continued to be taught in schools for many years to come.
