How did Shakespeare influence and impact society today?
Shakespeare used his characters to display emotions that we feel and situations that everyday people may go through to make his plays more relatable. Shakespeare commonly brings up the idea of human nature in his many plays. Shakespeare's characters aren't just people that used to be relatable, they still provide an emotion connection to the people of today. "The genius of Shakespeare's characters and plots are that they present real human beings in a wide range of emotions and conflicts that transcend their origins in Elizabethan England." (Lerner) In Romeo and Juliet he shows us the impulsive nature of people, especially young, and this today plays a major role in society because people today still have some of the same characteristics. Romeo's impulsiveness has many consequences, one of which is his death. (Shakespeare) He also gives us lessons or themes that many of us could apply to our everyday life. He shows us that humans aren't perfect and that we will make many mistakes. His characters show some of the positive human qualities but also shows us our many flaws. To portray his characters inner feelings and emotions Shakespeare also used soliloquies, which he is famous for. These soliloquies would reflect the characters deep and personal thoughts and better help us to understand their characteristic and real personality. The technique in which Shakespeare wrote about people and emotions will always be relatable to people, whether it be now or 20 years from now.
