How did Shakespeare influence today's modern language and literature?
Although Shakespeare wasn't a highly educated man, the style and difference in which he wrote still impacts us today. Over 1,500 of the most common and famous phrases and words that we use today were actually created by Shakespeare over 500 years ago. Shakespeare wrote in a very different way from other authors of his time. He did not stick to the tradition style of writing, he adapted it into his own style. He often used iambic pentameter and blank verse in many of his later plays unlike many of the writers of his time. Towards the end of Shakespeare's life he also wrote several tragicomedies which were uncommon among plays then. Shakespeare also influenced literature because of the way he impacted the style of authors and even composers, like Giuseppe Verdi, for many years after him. His rich characters and detailed plots became inspiration for people of the arts. (Lerner)
